Expediting Your F-1 Student Visa: The Guide to Emergency Appointment

Getting an interview appointment slot is challenging. Dates can only be booked 120 days before the beginning of the class. In comparison to other countries, Nepal only has one US Embassy that can schedule interviews. Obtaining a date among a large number of applicants is somewhat difficult. As a result, the embassy offers a one-of-a-kind service to applicants: an Emergency Appointment for the interview. Yes, it is tough to schedule a regular interview session because there are only a few slots available. However, even if the slots are unavailable, the embassy reserves some for-emergency situations. Meanwhile, several requirements must be met to obtain an emergency appointment.

To obtain an emergency appointment, you must have scheduled a regular appointment date and have appropriate document proof to support your urgency of the appointment. Your emergency appointment request will not be accepted until an initial appointment has been scheduled online. If you falsify your urgency and it shows up during your interview, it will be marked on your case file and may have a negative impact on the result of your visa. If any of the candidates were given an emergency appointment before and then declined, they won’t be given another emergency appointment for the visa interview.

Criteria for Emergency Appointments

The requirements for an emergency appointment for a visa might vary based on the applicant's circumstances and the regulations of the US embassy or consulate where the application is being handled. An applicant for an emergency visa must generally establish that they have an urgent or exceptional scenario that justifies immediate travel to the United States. This might include, but is not limited to, the following:

1. A medical emergency in the United States that needs rapid care.

2. A humanitarian crisis, such as the death of a member of the immediate family.

3. A urgent commercial or professional obligation.

4. A natural disaster or another unplanned incident that makes scheduling a regular appointment impractical.

5. The start date of the academic program is approaching, and the candidate will be unable to participate if the visa is not granted soon, but an emergency appointment cannot be sought before 60 days before the start of class.

How to Request an Emergency Appointment? Here is a step-by-step process to apply for Emergency Appointment.

1. The Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) form must first be completed.

2. Visa application fees of $160 are required.

3. Try to plan the earliest possible date; we repeat that emergency appointments may only be made if regular appointments are also scheduled. The earliest possible dates are provided when arranging the appointment, which may or may not include the dates for emergency appointments as well.

4. After obtaining a regular appointment date, you must request an emergency appointment by completing the emergency/expedited request form. Make sure you appropriately express your urgency so that you can qualify for an emergency appointment. After submitting the request form, you must wait for the embassy's answer, which may arrive via your registered email address.

5. If your request is accepted, you will receive an email notifying you to arrange your emergency appointment. If you require assistance with the appointment form, our team can assist you with the emergency request form. Please send an email to admissions@abroadinst.com for immediate assistance. If your emergency appointment request at the Embassy is declined, you will be contacted through email and notified to keep the currently booked date for your appointment.

It is essential to remember that granting an emergency F-1 visa appointment is at the decision of the US Embassy/Consulate, and each embassy may have different processes or extra criteria. If you believe you have an urgent or exceptional situation that necessitates an emergency appointment, contact the nearest US embassy or consulate as soon as possible to inquire about the process for requesting an emergency appointment and the specific criteria that you must meet to qualify.
